2017 BLUES WORKSHOPS

 

 

 

 

 

The Volusia County Blues Society is bringing in Tim Fik, Long Tall Deb & Colin John, and Tas Cru for the 2017 Blues Workshops at the Second 7th Daytona Blues Festival.

This year there will be a blues workshop BEFORE the festival starts each day in Jackie Robinson Ballpark. 

Friday- East Gate opens 1 pm with Blues Workshop at 1:15 PM

Saturday/Sunday- East Gate opens at 11:30 AM with Blues Workshop at 11:45AM

Admission to the Blues Workshops is included with your festival ticket, and donations will be accepted.

 

FRIDAY BLUES WORKSHOP – 1:15 PM

 Tim Fik, associate professor at the University of Florida, and the guitarist in the Bridget Kelly Band, is our Friday workshop presenter.

The workshop will be Friday morning, October 6 at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

Tim will discuss “The Blues as a Catalyst for Social Change: Reflections on the Birth, Diffusion, and Meaning of Blues Music in America.”

 

 

 

SATURDAY BLUES WORKSHOP – 11:45 AM

LONG TALL DEB & COLIN JOHN

Long Tall Deb & Colin John will present the Saturday Blues workshop sponsored by the Volusia County Blues Society.

And the topic will be “Call and Response 101 for Blues and Gospel”

“Vocal and Slide Guitar: Call and Response 101 for Blues and Gospel ” (ideal for musicians and fans alike)
Learn the essence of call and response in the blues and related music, enjoy a little history and participate in an interactive and fun workshop with vocalist Long Tall Deb and multi stringed instrumentalist Colin John.

 

 SUNDAY BLUES WORKSHOP -11:45 AM 

  TAS CRU

 Our Sunday, October 8 blues workshop  ” BLUES SONGWRITING” will be presented by TAS CRU.

 “While what ranks as a good blues song is largely subjective, there are key identifiable aspects that many of our favorite blues songs share in common. These aspects will be discussed in our workshop with examples from Blues Standards and Tas Cru originals serving our talking points.”

Honors and recognition include Cru being awarded the 2014 Blues Foundation’s Keeping the Blues Alive Award (KBA) for Blues Education and in 2009 named by Blues Festival Guide Magazine as its 2009 Blues Artist on the Rise. In January 2015, the Rum Boogie Café awarded Cru a guitar to autograph and hangs among the gallery of artist signed guitars. His latest album, Simmered & Stewed was named 2016 Best Blues Album by the Syracuse Area Music Awards (SAMMYS).
